well its that time of the year again,
fall is approaching and that means Halloween
so i have decided to begin creating concepts for
HELLOWEEN: HELL'S RESURRECTION
a Zombie map series in which i've taken the name of a previous map i was working on and later canceled
i also would like to mention that this map will be kind of like the "Community Mapping Project" that Sven Forums runs
but not with the same type of organization
reason being, to allow all of the forum's members Here get a chance to work on something big,
and so that we can allow different styles of architecture in one series
i will soon be uploading a top-down picture for the concept of the small town in which the setting will take place
-----Satellite Image from Google Earth or something will be used, Random location will be chosen... randomly i guess----

as of right now i'm assuming all forum mappers will be helping
if you do not want to help just say so
but if you join anytime after todays date of SEPTEMBER 1ST 2009
YOU CANNOT BE APART OF THE PROJECT
i don't like people joining a forum and then thinking they can get into the project the first day

Mapper Requirements
-has atleast started a map that was going somewhere, whether it was finished or not i don't care, atleast 60% of the brush work got finished in the map, please

here is the map i wanna use to recreate
as you can see, it will be a lot of work, so the more the merrier
everything outside the black lines for recreation will show up as forested areas as well

I could help beta test the map.

You could have enabled the scale legend thing in google earth to get an idea of the dimensions of the place. Using the ruler thing in google earth, it's about 750x1,460ft(9,000x17,520in.) which is around 1.095 million sqft. It would probably have to be broken up into 4-6 maps considering the grid size in hl is 8,192in^3.

i've been thinking about resurrecting the project and starting over
then yesterday i thought it would be cool to make it a Community mapping project

just each section marked and the river.... which i might have to redo because hl compile tools hates clipped and vertex manipulated brushes :ahhh:
oh well i have a back up plan

You can't use the clip texture on brush entities. For vertex manipulation, if you trying to make something like a displacement, you have to break the brush up into triangles to do that correctly.

no not clip texture, clipping tool,
its the one that allows you to carve off blocks, but you can use the texture for brush based entities
i used it in with a func_train once

I never really had very many problems using the clipping tool.

Every time I had a clip texture on a brush entity, the compile tools have bitched about it.

Are you using null textures on all non see-able faces on the map, it'll reduce the overall patch count in the map a little.

first off congrats cartman on your 3000th post
second i don't have any detail to the map so far other than the river, but once i get that far i'll bee sure to use it
i tried using clip texture for a wall that you can see through the other side, and the game crashed when i went into the room, but not compile tools, i then retreated to use an all blue texture :lol:
