I find the best use for mac products is experimenting with general relativity and gravitation from windows in tall buildings.

I finally have started my build, so excited ^-^ I order parts every Friday (When I get paid) So they come in only a few days apart. I just am saving up money for the i7 sandy bridge core, thanks to Cartman. Helping me along the way I think the parts I am getting are gonna build a solid computer. Not sure if I should get an aftermarket CPU cooler. I may wait to see if the case I got has the space for one. After it is done, I will probably ask for more help >.> It sucks learning all the things for comp building at first haha. It is worth it though :D

you can't really overclock with the stock cooler. The max cpu temp you would probably get with the stock cooler is about 70c for that i7 cpu with it completely maxed out in cpu usage, for my high end zalman one I generally get around 48-53c with it maxed out.

So basically if I wanted to keep a low temp CPU this would well right. I know it fits the LGA 1155 Socket of the core I am getting.

I Probably won't overclock the core for a while, Until I have it really figured out and know that I won't mess it up. I may but for the first few months certainly not.

No use in overclocking these days. it just wears the lifespan shorter on your hardware.

I'm curious, will the i5 sandy bridge core be close to the power of the i7, like I am on the fence on whether I should save up and get the i7 or the i5.

they are the same most ways but the i7 has hyperthreading and its more powerful.

Though this post is older, it still has some relevance. It seems that even without the hyper threading it isn't too much of a drop. But that all could have changed seeing as how pc's are always getting better.

I'll search some more later tonight to find a more updated version of cores with hyper threading vs. no hyper threading.

But I do know that the i7 cores in windows appear to have 8 cores even though they are only quad core, so that is certainly a plus.

An i7 over an i5 wouldn't make much of a difference in gaming unless the game your playing is heavily multithreaded, most games are either barely multithreaded(like 2-4 threads.) or not at all with the older ones. On average the i7 is somewhere around 20% faster overall then an i5 is.
