Whenever I play Sven coop, teamfortress 2, or any other steam multiplayer games I type net_graph 2 or 3 to see fps, loss, in, out, choke, and ping, My ping is fine, my fps is fine, but there is a problem with the "in" and "out". The "in" raises up much higher than "out". For example in Teamfortress 2 my in would be around 400-700 and my "out" would drop to around below 100, and would cause me to lag and make me retrace steps. For Sven Coop the "in" would rise up to around 600-700 while my "out" is around 10-20. I'm not sure whats going on and is there a why to fix this. If you would like to know I have cable high speed internet, and I am directly connected to the modem.

Is that Kb/s, or packet count/s? it should never get up that high if it is kb/s, my out is usually 2-3kb/s in sc, and in depending on the map would be anywhere from 3-12kb/s. from all of the npc's in sc, it's not uncommon to get a packet count up to a 1000/s, but that doesn't lag me at all, even when I was running the server off of my connection there could be as much as 15k-20k packets going over the connection every second and it wouldn't lag the connection that much.

Okay from what I see there is a number infront of "in" that has a number in the hundreds and another number a bit further to the right that has a number of around 1.7 to 2.2 k/s. Same for the out on the hud that shows a number next to "out" and another number just right of it that has decimal number.

In hl1 games it shows packet count and bandwidth usage in kb/s. In source it shows that , but the last one is updates per second. Are you sure your rate is high enough? Mine is set to 30000, or in other words about 30kb/s, a low rate setting will cause lag when there's a lot of action.

I never set that to anything so that might be it. How do I change it, through the game options?

One of the other things it could be is that your internet connection might be getting saturated with traffic. Your cable connection is shared with neighbors in your neighborhood, they might be using up all of the bandwidth, causing you lag, if you get a very inconsistent download speed on it it might meant that it's getting saturated with traffic. Not much you can do about it except to get a different isp. You could try to ping your isp's gateway ip address and see if you get random lag spikes in the ping.

Hmm. Well, I also do have problems playing World of War craft, with some lag problems. But I could play TF2, sven coop, and World of War Craft just fine on a 2 year old mac book pro and I'm playing it on the mac book pro from an external hardrive (ESATA). And the hardware on the Mac book Pro (2.16Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 3GB RAM NVidia graphics with 128MB Dedicated) is definitely isn't as good as the hardware on my Asus (Intel Core 2 Duo ~2.3GHz, 4094MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GT 512MB).

does it only do it on one pc? If thats the case then it might be a bad or bugged up network card in that comp, had one go bad in mine since it is 4 years old, had to switch over to the other one I have, but it would only screw up with tcp traffic, dl'ing anything, were it would cut out for upto 20 seconds at a time effecting both tcp and udp traffic.

Well we only only 2 laptops that can play games the mac book pro and my Asus that can play games so I'm not sure if its the same with the others. As for hardware this Notebook is pretty new could it could be a manufacture defect? and if it is what should i say to the "IT Specialist". I'm having my brother also looking over these problems at these forum topic. I also edited the previous post while you were replying sorry.

well if one comp lags and the other doesn't, it's probably a problem with the hardware in that computers, either it's bad(either defective or bad for gaming.) or the config for it is screwed up. WoW lags on most peoples comps from what I know, so i'm not really supprised about that. If both comps lag then it would probably be a problem with your internet.

Im not sure about WoW, i tried running it when i still was using my intel graphics card (i was bored as hell) and was able to run everything at high.
I only lagged when there was a lot of people in the same area i was in.
Maybe you just have bad luck when it comes to online games, playing with laggers or people who dont have a good enough computer to run a damn game well.
